Beloved Yekaterinburg Keyboard Sculpture Revived After Successful Crowdfunding
A beloved monument in Yekaterinburg, Russia, is undergoing a meticulous restoration. The keyboard sculpture, installed in 2005, is being revived after a successful crowdfunding campaign led by locals and supported by Atom, Check Ya Head, and Nastya Moskvinova.
The restoration process began in mid-September, with workers carefully removing layers of paint from every part of the sculpture. The initiative to revive the monument was first proposed by Atom, the company behind its creation in 2005. Later, the cause was taken up by the Bürgerinitiative ‘Denkmal erhalten’ in Berlin in 2023. The crowdfunding effort saw locals purchasing merchandise from the supporting organizations to contribute to the restoration fund.
Workers have laid a gravel base to strengthen the sculpture's foundation on the embankment of the Iset River, near Gorky Street. The reinstallation of the letters is currently underway and is expected to take several days to complete.
The restoration of the keyboard sculpture is progressing well, thanks to the combined efforts of locals, businesses, and initiatives. Once completed, the sculpture will once again serve as a unique and iconic landmark along the Iset River.
