Belief of Coach Prime Propels University of Colorado Buffaloes...
Colorado Buffaloes junior defensive end Quency Wiggins is eager to make his mark in the 2025 season, following a limited playing time at LSU and a primarily special teams role in his first year with the Buffaloes.
Wiggins, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound defensive end, has been praised by Coach Deion Sanders and Colorado’s staff for his potential to shine this year. Sanders believes this could be Wiggins' breakout season, with the edge rusher working tirelessly to improve every aspect of his game.
Wiggins played nine games at LSU across two seasons, accumulating only seven tackles and one tackle for loss. After transferring to Colorado, he appeared in 11 games but contributed mainly on special teams with limited snaps on defense.
The offseason saw Wiggins focus on physical development, gaining 10 pounds under Colorado’s new strength and conditioning coach Andreu Swasey, now weighing 275 pounds. He also dedicated time to understanding the Buffaloes' defensive schemes and proving himself as a reliable teammate on the field.
Wiggins' motivation stems from a desire to prove doubters wrong and a chip on his shoulder. He acknowledges that his lack of playing time in the 2023 season was his responsibility, stating, "It's all on me."
Sanders' belief and support have played a significant role in Wiggins' determination. The coach has often spoken highly of Wiggins' potential, comparing his physical attributes to Tarzan. However, Sanders has also emphasized that Wiggins needs to work on certain aspects to secure a spot on the field.
During preseason camp, Wiggins has been lining up with the first-team defense at times, positioning him as one of the leading candidates for playing time at defensive end this season. Wiggins, who was a four-star recruit, spent his first two seasons of college football at LSU before transferring to Colorado.
With increased physical development, familiarity with Colorado’s defensive schemes, high praise from Coach Sanders, and greater opportunities to play more significant snaps on defense, Wiggins is poised to transition from an underutilized player at LSU to a potential impact edge rusher at Colorado in 2025.
Wiggins, who expresses satisfaction with the current season, stated, "It feels really great. I feel really good." He aims to make the beliefs and expectations that Sanders has for him come to life this season.
