Thanks to Belgium: Tennis Team Has Chance to Stay in World Group - Belgium’s Billie Jean King Cup win keeps Germany’s World Group hopes alive

In a thrilling Billie Jean King Cup match, Belgium secured a victory over Turkey in the doubles, ensuring Germany's place in the World Group. Sunday's showdown between Germany and Belgium will now decide Germany's fate in the prestigious tournament.

On November 15, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Jule Niemeier represented Germany in the doubles match against Turkey in Ismaning. Despite their best efforts, they lost 6:2, 2:6, 4:6. However, Belgium's win over Turkey in the singles matches has given Germany a lifeline.

Ayla Aksu of Turkey triumphed over Sofia Costoulas of Belgium in her singles match, winning 6–3, 6–1. But it was Hanne Vandewinkel's victory over Zeynep Sönmez, 6–4, 6–4, that proved crucial for Germany. Belgium's win over Turkey means Germany can still qualify for the World Group. If Turkey had also beaten Belgium, Germany would have faced relegation.

Sunday's tie between Germany and Belgium will be a decisive showdown. Only the winner of this playoff group will compete for the Billie Jean King Cup in 2026. Germany, who have been in the World Group since 2014, will be fighting to maintain their position. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
