Belgium contributes to Jordan's Gaza aid plan, providing financial assistance amounting to $690,000.
In response to the urgent needs of the civilian population in Gaza, both Belgium and France have announced plans to airdrop humanitarian aid. The combined value of the aid is approximately $1.38 million.
The Belgian aid-drop is scheduled to take place from Amman, with a plane carrying medical supplies and food worth around $690,000. The Belgian government emphasizes the need for land access to aid Gaza effectively, as airdrops are seen as a temporary measure.
Yesterday, France also announced it would carry out an air drop of aid to Gaza amid UN agencies' warnings of famine. The French aid-drop is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
The Belgian government's decision to participate in the aid-drop operations comes as UN agencies have warned that the Gaza Strip is facing acute hunger and is heading towards famine due to the continued Israeli blockade of humanitarian assistance.
The aid-drop plans by both Belgium and France are part of a multi-country operation coordinated by Jordan. The Belgian A400M military transport plane has been used for the missions, which returned home after a 16-day operation, having dropped 190 tonnes of aid.
The aid being provided includes medical supplies, food, and emergency aid packages. Basic foodstuffs such as rice, sugar, pasta, tomato paste, and dates have been included in the airdrops.
Jordan's aid-drop plan for Gaza also includes coordination with Amman. The aid-drop operations are ongoing, with a significant delivery on August 4, 2025, when Canadian and Belgian air forces conducted humanitarian airdrops to Gaza. On August 5, 2025, Belgium planned to drop a further 12 tonnes of emergency aid.
