Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel set to compete in the Tour of Britain Men's race before parting ways with Soudal Quick-Step team, according to team confirmation.
Tour of Britain Men: Remco Evenepoel Returns, Geraint Thomas Bids Farewell
The Tour of Britain Men, set to run from September 2 to September 7, has announced its full route and revealed an exciting lineup of participants. Among them are defending champion Remco Evenepoel and British cycling legend Geraint Thomas, who will be riding in his home town of Cardiff on the final stage of the race.
Evenepoel, who has moved from Soudal Quick-Step to Red Bull, will make his comeback after abandoning the Tour de France on stage 14. The Belgian rider, who won both the Olympic Games road race and time trial in Paris last year, aims to defend his rainbow bands in the ITT and win them back in the road race at the World Championship.
The seven-man team for the Tour of Britain Men has yet to be announced, but Evenepoel's participation has been confirmed. The race starts in Woodbridge, Suffolk and finishes in Cardiff, with three punchy finishes throughout the route. Unfortunately, this year's Tour of Britain Men does not include any time trials.
Thomas, who is set to retire after the race, will participate in the Tour of Britain Men as his final race of his illustrious career. The Welshman will be honoured in Cardiff on the final stage, marking the end of an era for British cycling.
The team dynamic for Evenepoel's new team, Red Bull, will be an interesting aspect to watch. Evenepoel has been undergoing altitude training in Livigno to prepare for the high-profile races with his current team, Soudal Quick-Step, as he plans to transfer to Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe for the 2026 season.
Following the Tour of Britain, Evenepoel's race schedule includes preparation for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships held in Rwanda, where he is expected to compete in both the road race and the time trial events. After completing his final races with Soudal Quick-Step, including the Tour of Britain, his focus will shift to these key late-season targets.
Evenepoel has plans to ride both the World Championship road race and time trial in Rwanda at the end of September. His transfer to Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe will commence after the conclusion of the 2025 season.
The Tour of Britain Men promises to be an exciting event, with top-tier riders like Evenepoel and Thomas set to compete. Don't miss out on the action as the race unfolds from September 2 to September 7.
