In an exciting turn of events, 18-year-old Belarusian basketball sensation Marya Boyko has announced her move to the University of Maryland to continue her career with the Maryland Terrapins in the NCAA.

Boyko, a towering center at 194 centimeters, has made a name for herself in Russia, where she spent the last three seasons playing with a Moscow club. Her impressive performance earned her the MVP title of the DUBL championship last season.

Despite being Belarusian by nationality, Boyko's career has been primarily highlighted in Russia. The University of Maryland's basketball program, with its strong history, including winning the NCAA championship in 2006 and multiple Final Four appearances, promises a high level of competition that Boyko is eager to join.

Boyko, who prefers to be called by her unique name "Marya" (not Maria or Masha), has become one of the key figures in the basketball club MBA system over the past few years. She has represented the Belarusian national team at both youth and senior levels.

The details of Boyko's move to the USA and her joining the University of Maryland were shared in an interview with "Sport-Express". The move was not an easy decision for Boyko, and her opinion on the move changed throughout the year. However, her interest in learning how to play contact basketball, a style predominant in the USA, contributed to her decision.

Boyko is set to join the Terrapins in mid to late August. The main coach at the University of Maryland, Brenda Frese, has already explained Boyko's role in the new system. Over the past two seasons, Boyko made 693 rebounds and blocked 84 shots for the MBA team, and from 2022 to 2025, she played 109 games for the main squad, scoring 908 points.

Boyko has twice won the DYUBL (in 2023 and 2024) and was named MVP of the "Final Eight" twice. She graduated from RGOUOR and Moscow's SShOR No71 "Timiryazevskaya".

Boyko is optimistic about her future at the University of Maryland, expecting it to provide a platform for her personal and game development. She is impressed by the coaching staff and is confident that she knows her role on the court.

As Boyko embarks on this new chapter in her basketball career, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how she will fare in the competitive NCAA.

In the forthcoming academic year, Marya Boyko will be joining the University of Maryland's basketball team in the NCAA, bringing her impressive skills in sports, particularly basketball, to the table. With the NCAA-basketball program offering a high level of competition, Boyko is excited to apply her skills and learn the contact style predominant in American basketball.
