Belarusian authorities order Czech diplomat to leave the country, designating him as persona non grata.
In a recent development, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared a Czech diplomat persona non grata, giving him 72 hours to leave the country. This decision comes in response to the Czech Republic's actions towards Belarusian diplomats, which the Belarusian authorities consider fabricated and baseless.
The Czech Chargé d'affaires ad interim in Belarus, Tomáš Kryl, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus today. The official spokesperson for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ruslan Varankov, emphasized the declaration of the Czech diplomat as persona non grata.
Mr. Kryl has been waiting for 13 days to meet with Belarusian officials, but his requests have been repeatedly denied. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stressed that the reasons given by Poland and the Czech Republic are fabricated and baseless.
Meanwhile, water supply issues have been reported in Uruchye, and a rare case of funds being credited to another client with the same identifier has been reported, but it remains unclear whether these incidents are related to the diplomatic tensions.
Poland and the Czech Republic have asked Belarusian diplomats at the rank of counsellor to leave their territories. Poland expelled a Belarusian diplomat accused of supporting aggressive actions by Belarus against Poland, while the Czech Republic also announced the expulsion of a Belarusian diplomat suspected of espionage. These actions were coordinated and condemned by Belarus as provocative.
The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the Czech Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the declaration of the Czech diplomat as persona non grata. The Czech diplomat, whose identity has not been disclosed, will now have to leave Belarus within the given timeframe. The diplomatic standoff between the two countries continues, and it remains to be seen how this situation will unfold in the coming days.
