Belarus declares emergency as heavy snow paralyzes key regions

Belarus has activated emergency measures as heavy snowfall hits parts of the country. Authorities have rolled out a large-scale response, deploying equipment and materials to keep roads clear and safe. The Ministry of Transport is leading the effort with hundreds of vehicles and thousands of tons of de-icing supplies on standby.

The Ministry of Transport has sent out around 200 specialised machines for snow removal. These include snowploughs and spreaders, all prepared for immediate use. In addition, over 1,500 snow-clearing vehicles are now ready across the country.

Republican road enterprises have stockpiled 133,300 tons of sand-salt mix and 105,000 tons of pure salt. These reserves will help combat icy conditions on major routes. Teams at these enterprises are working around the clock, ensuring quick responses to worsening weather. The ‘Weather Alert’ plan has been triggered in the Gomel, Grodno, and Brest regions. This move signals heightened readiness as snowfall intensifies. Crews remain on 24/7 standby to tackle any disruptions caused by the weather.

With equipment, materials, and personnel in place, Belarus aims to minimise travel disruptions during the snowstorm. The activated alert plan and constant monitoring will help maintain road safety. Authorities continue to assess conditions as the situation develops.
