Belarus braces for blizzard as Mediterranean cyclone sweeps in
Belarus is preparing for a powerful snowstorm as a southern cyclone approaches from the Mediterranean. The system, known as a Genoa low, will bring heavy snow and strong winds across much of the country. Forecasters warn of blizzard-like conditions in many areas.
The storm will first hit the Brest and Gomel regions early on Monday, with snowfall starting between 7 and 9 a.m. Temperatures will hover near freezing as the precipitation begins. By mid-morning, the southern half of Belarus will be blanketed, though the Gomel region may see a brief rise to +2…+5°C, turning snow into rain.
The storm’s impact will vary across Belarus, with the heaviest snowfall concentrated in the west and central regions. While some areas may see rain instead of snow, the combination of wind and precipitation is set to disrupt travel and daily routines. The national weather service continues to monitor the situation closely.
