Craving for Canelo's Boxing Perfection, Belal Muhammad Steps into the Octagon

Segueing from his stupendous title triumph over Leon Edwards, Belal Muhammad aims to prove he can box like the unparalleled Canelo Alvarez at UFC 315.

Preparing for his initial title defense in the city of Montreal, Canada, on this coming weekend, Muhammad will duel against Jack Della Maddalena. The pair will spearhead a roster that also includes Valentina Shevchenko's Women's Flyweight Championship defense against Manon Fiorot.

Stepping into the world of UFC in July 2016, Muhammad has forged a name for himself, epitomizing unrelenting stamina and unyielding pressure in his showdowns. Yet, he's been criticized for failing to secure the finish. Only three of his 15 UFC victories have culminated through a stoppage - just one by submission.

"The recalled one" rose to the top of the welterweight hierarchy by wresting the title in a grossly underwhelming but decisive victory against Leon Edwards last July in Manchester.

Ahead of his maiden title defense, Muhammad shared his plans on flaunting his improved boxing skills, as reported by MMA Fighting.

"For myself, especially these last couple of fights, I've been using my hands a lot," he revealed.

"I've been using the Canelo boxing. I want to put it to the test. I want to put it to the test and have that moment where I go, 'That's why I'm the best boxer in the UFC. That's why I'm the best boxer in the welterweight division.'

"All these people are going to keep hating, they're going to keep wondering how we keep doing it. But we just keep growing and we keep getting better."

Though Muhammad has frequently compared himself to Canelo and asserted that he'd demonstrate his newfound boxing talents, his past performances have never delivered this promise. Canelo, who is commonly regarded as the preeminent pound-for-pound boxer at present, has held a myriad of world titles across four weight divisions.

Unlike Canelo, Della Maddalena, Muhammad's opponent, is a knockout artist. He's expunged five of his eight UFC victories via knockout. Nevertheless, Muhammad believes he has multiple paths to conquer and outmatches his Australian adversary, not solely through knockouts.

"Whenever you delve into a fight, you naturally suss out the opponent's weaknesses," Muhammad explicated.

"I attempt to strategize based on that. So for me, I could vanquish him through various ways. Perhaps by outstruck him, out kickbox him, or outwrestle him. I am aware that I have numerous different paths to victory."

"Unlike me, he can only win one way - through knockout," he added. "He won't outlast me. He won't outwork me. He won't outmuscle me. He won't outgrapple me."

For the record, Della Maddalena boasts an incredible MMA winning streak, stretching back to 2016, with seven consecutive UFC triumphs to his name. If victorious, Della Maddalena could make history by becoming the first ever Australian to claim the UFC welterweight belt at UFC 315. The preliminary action commences around 10:30pm UK time, with the main card starting at 3am on Sunday morning.
