Kick off spring at Walsrode Bird Park: A World of Avian Diversity Reimagined

Kicking off the new season at Walsrode's Bird Park - Beginning of the Avian Season at Walsrode Bird Park

Hey there!

Stampede your way to the Walsrode World Bird Park for a brand spankin' new season. This year, they've shaken things up, splitting the park into different geographical regions, giving it a fresh, unified feel.

"We've given it a fresh lick of paint," says the park's zoological director, Stefanie Alonso, "it's all about continuity, creating a cohesive theme throughout." Don't worry about getting lost – there's new signage, appropriate greenery, and regional digs to guide you along your feathered adventure.

For instance, the American sector is all about majestic birds of prey, while Australia boasts a thriving parakeet population and even a bush hen. Africa, on the other hand, is home to Madagascan species. Lush heathland with native species and moorland sheep – a small, distinct breed – is set to join the party in the coming weeks.

The park's home to a whopping 4,000 birds from over 600 species, sprawled across a 24-hectare garden and adventure playground. This year, keep your eyes peeled for the elusive Italian quail – a subspecies claimed to be extinct in the wild.

To put the cherry on top, many areas of the park were accessible during winter weekends for the first time ever. If you missed out, fear not! Indoor attractions like the Paradise Hall, the Parakeet House, and the Night Worlds offered a taste of tropical species, and thankfully it was a smashing success. Online sales made it a breeze, and surprisingly, entrance fees were lower compared to the balmy months.

Many other animal and leisure parks follow suit, with the Serengeti Park Hodenhagen, Heide Park Soltau, and Heide Heaven treetop trail in the Lueneburg Heath Wild Park joining the celebration when spring blossoms in full force.

Remember, your best bet for accurate and current information lies with the park's official website or by giving them a friendly call. Happy trailblazing!
