Before Excel: VisiCalc Quiz Tests Spreadsheet History
Before Microsoft Excel dominated the scene, the first electronic spreadsheet software, VisiCalc, was launched in 1979 by Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston. Today, spreadsheets are considered indispensable tools in IT, and a quiz hosted by Anna Bicker is putting these essential tools to the test. The quiz, part of a tech show followed on various platforms, is a transition from a new quiz tool to an older system. It consists of 10 questions, with participants able to earn up to 200 points. Despite Excel's widespread use since the 1980s, it wasn't the first spreadsheet program. That honour goes to VisiCalc, launched two years prior. The show's host, Anna Bicker, is joined by editors Malte Kirchner and Ben Schwan. Feedback is welcome to improve the quiz process, and potential hiccups in app integration are expected during the transition. The 'little nerd quiz on spreadsheets' is a testament to the enduring relevance of these tools in IT. Despite Excel's success, it wasn't the first of its kind. VisiCalc, launched by Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston, paved the way. The quiz, hosted by Anna Bicker, is a fun and engaging way to celebrate and test knowledge of these essential tools.
