Writer Beau Willimon Opens Up About His Current Projects: Andor and Severance

In an interview with Variety, Beau Willimon discusses his current roles as an executive producer on Apple TV+'s Severance and writer for both seasons of Andor. He describes his collaboration with Andor creator Tony Gilroy as similar to "being a session musician on someone's album."

Initially, Willimon thought Gilroy was joking when he invited him to write for Andor due to his lack of a hardcore Star Wars fandom. Gilroy, though, emphasized the importance of a fresh perspective for telling a "human story and a grown-up story."

Working with Gilroy, Willimon spent six weeks breaking the story for Andor, appreciating the freedom to focus solely as a writer. As for the second season of Severance, Willimon took on the role as an executive producer to offer extra support to the team, describing the experience as "challenging himself to help bring the second season to fruition."

Willimon is proud of both projects and finds joy in producing, praising the opportunity to facilitate someone else's vision without bearing the full creative load. As for the future, Willimon remains engaged in producing and writing work on both Severance and Andor.
