"Bear display titled 'United Buddy Bears' organised in Singapore"
In the heart of Singapore, at Gardens by the Bay's Supertree Grove Lawn, the United Buddy Bears exhibition is currently captivating visitors. The life-sized bear sculptures, each uniquely painted by artists from various countries, are a testament to cultural diversity and global harmony.
The exhibition, which originated in Berlin in 2002, symbolizes hope for peace and unity. With 150 bears arranged in circles, the exhibition demonstrates how different nations can stand together in unity. Among these, 145 bears represent specific countries, and five bears hold unique significance.
Since its inception, the United Buddy Bears exhibition has traveled to over 36 countries worldwide, including the United States, France, Finland, Egypt, Japan, and India. The Singapore debut, running from August 14, 2025, until October 12, 2025, is a significant milestone. The exhibition features a bear designed by Singaporean artist Jacqueline Harliman, incorporating local motifs like orchids and henna tattoos to reflect the nation's multicultural heritage.
On August 14, 2025, a woman was captured in a poignant moment, viewing the life-size bears at the exhibition. The photograph, taken by Then Chih Wey/Xinhua, encapsulates the spirit of the United Buddy Bears exhibition – a global celebration of cultural diversity and unity.
The United Buddy Bears exhibition is free to the public, making it accessible to all, fostering intercultural dialogue and peace. This broad global reach and the inclusive artistic collaboration underscore the exhibition's role in promoting understanding and unity among nations.
