BC Football Club secures agreements with three experienced Canadian Football League athletes, headlined by Hergy Mayala
B.C. Lions Bolster Defensive Line and Wide Receiver Corps Ahead of Crucial Matchup
The B.C. Lions have made significant moves in the Canadian Football League (CFL) ahead of their upcoming game against the Montreal Alouettes. The team has signed National defensive lineman Anthony Bennett, American defensive lineman Celestin Haba, and National wide receiver Hergy Mayala to their practice roster [1].
Anthony Bennett, a first-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft, previously played two games with the Ottawa REDBLACKS in 2025 and has experience playing in the Grey Cup [1]. Bennett dressed for two regular-season games with the Ottawa Redblacks this season, recording two special teams tackles.
Celestin Haba, who stands at 6'1" and 250 lbs, played three games this season with the Toronto Argonauts and has recorded sacks and a forced fumble. During his time with the Blue Bombers, Haba recorded 18 defensive tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles [1]. Haba also played 18 games during his rookie season with Winnipeg, making eight defensive tackles and three special teams tackles.
Hergy Mayala, a National wide receiver, was a first-round pick in the 2019 CFL Draft. In his rookie year with the Calgary Stampeders, Mayala made 38 receptions for 562 yards and five touchdowns. Last season, Mayala played 12 games for the Edmonton Elks, with 41 receptions for 503 yards and five touchdowns [1]. In seven games with the Toronto Argonauts this season, Mayala recorded three catches for 40 yards. To date, Mayala has played in 72 regular-season games, combining to catch 151 passes for 1,916 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The B.C. Lions (4-5) will host the Montreal Alouettes (5-4) at BC Place Stadium on Saturday, August 16. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. The kickoff for the game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 690 in Montreal and 730 CKNW in Vancouver for the game between the B.C. Lions and Montreal Alouettes.
