BBC's Race Across the World spin-off The Detour moves forward without Scott Mills
The BBC has confirmed plans for a new Race Across the World spin-off, The Detour, despite the recent departure of presenter Scott Mills. The show, announced in March, will take the form of a video podcast produced by Studio Lambert—the same team behind The Traitors: Uncloaked. Mills, who won the Celebrity Race Across the World earlier this year, left the BBC over the weekend after his contract was terminated.
Mills had been a prominent figure at the BBC, taking over the Radio 2 Breakfast Show from Zoe Ball in 2023. His salary for the role last year reached nearly £360,000. However, his exit follows a series of controversies involving BBC talent, including cases involving Gregg Wallace, Russell Brand, and Huw Edwards.
*The Detour* was officially unveiled on March 12 as part of the BBC's vodcast lineup. While details on participants or teams remain unclear, the format will mirror *The Traitors: Uncloaked*, offering behind-the-scenes insights and discussions. Mills and his husband, Sam Vaughan, had previously won the *Celebrity Race Across the World* in 2024, boosting his profile before his departure. The BBC has not yet named a replacement host for *The Detour* but confirmed that production will continue as planned. Mills had faced scrutiny in 2018 over allegations of historic sexual offences, though the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence. His latest exit adds to a period of upheaval for the broadcaster.
With Mills no longer involved, the BBC will need to appoint a new host for The Detour in the coming months. The spin-off remains on track, signalling the corporation's commitment to expanding the Race Across the World brand. Further announcements on casting and scheduling are expected in due course.
