BBC searches for new Strictly Come Dancing hosts after Daly and Winkleman exit
The search for new hosts on Strictly Come Dancing is underway after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stepped down. The duo presented their final live show on 20 December 2024, ending a 21-year run on the BBC programme. Zoe Ball has emerged as the leading candidate, though other names remain in the mix.
Daly and Winkleman announced their departure from Strictly in October 2024. Their last appearance came during the grand finale in December, marking the end of an era for the long-running dance competition.
The BBC is now looking for a fresh hosting pair. Reports suggest the broadcaster wants a mix: one traditional presenter alongside a more unconventional choice, possibly a female stand-up comedian.
Zoe Ball is currently the front-runner for the role. She has openly expressed her enthusiasm, calling Strictly a 'joyful' show. However, she recognises the challenge of following in Winkleman and Daly's footsteps. Her recent departure from her Saturday Radio 2 slot—citing personal reasons, including grief over her mother's death and a focus on her children—has left her schedule open.
Emma Willis is also under consideration, bringing her experience from shows like The Voice UK. Another name in the frame is Sara Cox, known for her quick wit and down-to-earth presenting style. Her natural, off-the-cuff manner has made her a strong contender in the eyes of Strictly bosses.
The BBC has yet to confirm any final decisions. The new hosts will take over a show that remains one of the most popular on British television. Their first appearance is expected when Strictly Come Dancing returns for its next series.
