BBC obtains The Black Forest Murders from StudioCanal
In a recent development, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has acquired the four-part German series, 'The Black Murders', from StudioCanal. This fictional police drama, based on two real-life criminal cases from 2016 in southern Baden, offers a gripping exploration into the world of crime investigation.
The series, produced by Nils Dünker and executive produced by Caroline Daube, follows Senior Detective Barbara Kramer (Nina Kunzendorf) and her team, including Thomas Riedle (Tilman Strauß). They are tasked with finding the perpetrator of a murder and dealing with a second murder, the connection between which is unclear.
Directed by Stefan Krohmer, 'The Black Murders' is a Lailaps Film (a StudioCanal Company) production, supported by SWR and the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern. The lead cast includes Nina Kunzendorf as Barbara Kramer and Tilman Strauß as Thomas Riedle, along with a supporting ensemble featuring Aliki Hirsch, Božidar Kocevski, Atrin Haghdoust, David Richter, Liliane Amuat, Florian Hertweck, Markus Krojer, Katja Bürkle, Sophia Schober, and Mira Huber.
The series is written by Robert Hummel and Martina Mouchot and is based on the non-fiction Walter Roth book SOKO Erle. It provides a detailed look at the challenges of solving complex crimes and the psychological toll on those involved in such high-stakes investigations.
Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, has commented that 'The Black Murders' is an authentic and compelling crime series. The series is distributed by StudioCanal and will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Four.
Interestingly, parallels to a similar case in Austria that occurred four years earlier are emerging in 'The Black Murders'. As the investigation unfolds, viewers will be kept on the edge of their seats, trying to decipher the connections between the two cases.
'The Black Murders' is tagged with BBC, iPlayer, and true crime, providing a captivating addition to the BBC's crime drama catalogue. However, it is not related to any other categories such as social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, or Email.
Tune in to BBC iPlayer and BBC Four to experience the chilling suspense and intricate plot of 'The Black Murders'.
