Bayer Leverkusen's head honcho, Simon Rolfes, believes the club is on an upward trajectory, with significant potential to grow in power. In a recent interview, Rolfes, 42, stated, "People still underestimate our immense capabilities. We're no longer the Bayer 04 Leverkusen from 15 years ago. Now, we're the undisputed top dog in the Rhineland, embodying this region's spirit worldwide. Our influence is palpable in every aspect, and our double-win season certainly gave our development a significant boost."

Rolfes sees the coming years as a massive opportunity to rise to unprecedented heights. "There's still a lot to conquer. But the high expectations following our double-win aren't a burden. Instead, they propel us forward, fueling our confidence, strength, and belief in turning matches around or excelling in high-pressure situations, like a knockout game."

However, he acknowledges the improbability of matching last season's unstoppable performance, maintaining, "Repeating our dominance and going through an entire Bundesliga season unbeaten is quite unlikely. We'll certainly lose games. There will be days when we're not at our best. But we're hugely ambitious. We've got a star-studded team, gifted individuals, and a strong mental attitude."

Other Bundesliga clubs might underestimate Leverkusen's enhanced abilities based on their past achievements. Yet, Rolfes views the heightened expectations from supporters as an opportunity rather than pressure.

Bayer Leverkusen's ambition is multifaceted, with a keen focus on sustainable success and maintaining a competitive edge. The club targets finishing in the Bundesliga's top four each season and qualifying for the Champions League, aiming for the last 16. Crucially, Leverkusen has managed to retain the core of manager Xabi Alonso's squad, including standout players Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

Vital contracts run until 2026 for Alonso and extend to 2027 for Wirtz, signaling a commitment to retaining key players. Leverkusen's recruitment strategy draws on existing players to entice new talent, as demonstrated by Wirtz's arrival instance.

If Wirtz were to leave, Leverkusen would look for creative solutions instead of searching for direct replacements, such as happened after Kai Havertz's departure. The club fosters an ambitious atmosphere, emphasizing ongoing development and individual success. Furthermore, Bayer Leverkusen aims to extend Wirtz's contract until 2028, demonstrating their long-term commitment to retaining valuable assets.

By implementing these strategies, Leverkusen seeks to build on its success from the previous season and establish a lasting, competitive presence in the Bundesliga and European competitions.
