Hoeneß on WM Hype around Youngster Karl: "A Bit Overblown" - Bayern Munich’s young star Lennart Karl dazzles but faces calls for patience
Lennart Karl has become one of Bayern Munich's most talked-about young talents after scoring key goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League. The 17-year-old has also netted three times for Germany's U21 side in Euro qualifying. But club legends and officials are urging patience as the teenager continues to develop under coach Vincent Kompany.
Karl's rapid rise has drawn attention, especially after standout performances in both domestic and European competitions. His inclusion in the first team came partly due to injuries, but he has seized the opportunity alongside fellow youngster Tom Bischof. They have adapted well under coach Vincent Kompany, learning from experienced players like Michael Olise and Luis Díaz.
Both Karl and Bischof recently helped Germany's U21s secure a 6:0 win over Malta in Euro qualifying. Yet, despite his early success, Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeneß has described the hype around Karl as 'a little overblown'. Hoeneß pointed out that the teenager has made relatively few appearances so far, even if his performances have been impressive.
Club president Herbert Hainer echoed this sentiment, stressing that Karl needs time and space to grow. Hoeneß drew from his own experience, recalling how he had to deliver a full outstanding season before national team coach Helmut Schön took notice. Meanwhile, Bayern's leadership is also looking forward to the return of injured stars Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Ito, who are expected to bolster the squad further.
Karl's progress has been notable, but Bayern's officials remain cautious about placing too much pressure on the young forward. His contributions so far suggest potential, but the club is focused on his long-term development. With key players set to return from injury, the team's depth will only increase in the coming months.
