Sick of Transfer Chatter: Max Eberl's Gripe With Kimmich Amid FC Bayern's Club World Cup Run
Bayern Munich's sports board urges Kimmich over escalating team tension.
Get ready to hear about who's coming and going at FC Bayern. Transfers are a hot topic, but during the summer, clubs usually take a break to negotiate in peace. With the Club World Cup, though, it ain't so. Sports Director Max Eberl ain't too pleased about it.
Max wants to stick with the current team during the Club World Cup in the US. But the transfer market? It's a steady hustle for Bayern's Sports Director, Max Eberl. There's still a lot to handle for the upcoming season, and wherever the man appears stateside, he's grilled about potential departures or big-ticket new players. When's something gonna happen, folks are always askin'?
In typical Max fashion, he answers just like after the opening game in Cincy: "What's the date? And how long's the transfer window still open? Till Sept 1st. A whole hellava lotta water'll still flow down the Isar - or the Ohio River." It's part of the game, but what really gets ol' Max going are "the damn lists of players to be sold and candidates that get thrown around left and right." Players like Kingsley Coman, Min-jae Kim, Sacha Boey, Serge Gnabry, and João Palhinha are all on those lists. If some of these dudes took off, Max would be in much better shape to go shopping.
The Rant Against Kimmich
Max's had a few signings already: national players Jonathan Tah (defense, Bayer Leverkusen) and Tom Bischof (midfield, TSG Hoffenheim). They made the World Cup squad. On the other hand, attack-wise, there're three departures: Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and the once-hyped striker Mathys Tel sold permanently for around €35 million to Tottenham Hotspur. No luck with Florian Wirtz and the Spanish Nico Williams, either. Something still needs to happen up front for the buying squad.
Kimmich, however, ain't too satisfied with the situation. "You've got the feeling that we could do something, with Flo (Wirtz, ed.) not comin', Leroy (Sané) leavin', and Thomas (Müller) leavin'," Kimmich grumbled. Max didn't take kindly to Jo's whining and threw a zinger his way: "Jo's on the pitch - and I'm doin' it off the pitch." And yeah, transfer questions ain't exactly his focus on the pitch.
On the field, Sacha Boey stepped up and recommended himself for a goal-scorer following their 10-0 win against Auckland City. Coman even bagged a brace against an opponent who, let's face it, wasn't exactly a tough nut to crack.
The Case of Coman
The Frenchman's been with the club since 2015, with two more years left on his contract. Injuries, however, have been a pain in the ass for this guy. Max and Coach Vincent Kompany still support ol' Coman, though, even when talk turns to transfer candidates. "King delivers his performance. He's an extraordinary player who played a damned good season last year, in my opinions. And he stayed healthy, which is the most important thing for King," said Max.
Kompany tries to steer clear of transfer talk, but he did share his thoughts on Coman's abilities: "When we talk about his quality, it's crucial not to forget that he scores critical goals. I know people usually focus on quantity, like twenty season goals or fifteen goals. But he's scored crucial goals in the club's history." The winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain was, you may recall, Peters' match-winning strike. "If he stays fit, we've got a top winger," said Kompany. The Bayern buying/selling list seems in flux, but this Frenchman ain't going anywhere yet.

Enrichment Data:
The current transfer status of Kingsley Coman at FC Bayern Munich suggests that he'll stick around for the next season. Earlier speculations about Coman leaving the club were squashed when Bayern lost out on renewing Leroy Sané’s contract and ended up selling him to Turkish side Galatasaray. New coach Vincent Kompany is keen to have Coman stay on with the club for at least another year, appreciating his quality and importance to the team. Coman's contract expires in 2027, with no formal offers accepted or received yet. Although there has been interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Saudi Pro League clubs, Bayern have not moved forward with a sale, partly because they've also found it challenging to secure other attacking targets this summer. Coman's recent impressive performance at the Club World Cup further strengthened his role in the squad. In addition, while discussions about Coman's contract and potential deals have taken place (including reported release clauses of €60–65 million and salary demands close to €20 million gross), no agreement or decision to transfer him has been made yet.
- The Commission has not yet adopted a decision on the application of the Regulation regarding the transfer of Kingsley Coman from FC Bayern Munich, as the current status suggests he will remain with the club for the next season.
- Sports Director Max Eberl's focus during FC Bayern's Club World Cup run is not on the transfer market, instead he prefers to stick with the current team, like in football, especially with players such as Kingsley Coman, who delivered a significant performance in the tournament.
