In a thrilling encounter at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich kicked off their Champions League campaign for the 2025/26 season with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea. The Bavarians took an early lead in the 21st minute, as Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah inadvertently found the back of his own net. Bayern's captain, Manuel Neuer, who recorded his 100th Champions League victory in the match, was pleased with the early advantage. Despite being considered favourites, Bayern's coach, Vincent Kompany, acknowledged the strength of their opponents, stating before the match that this was a first step against a 'very, very good opponent.' Harry Kane, the team's leader, doubled Bayern's lead from the spot in the 54th minute, taking his season tally to 10 goals. Konrad Laimer played in Kane for a missed opportunity earlier in the second half, while Malo Gusto provided an unfortunate assist for Kane's second goal. Chelsea responded with a goal from Cole Palmer in the 29th minute, but they were unable to equalise. The equaliser came close in the 60th minute when Michael Olise missed a clean shot after a wonderful setup by Kane. Josip Stanisic had to leave the field injured, but Bayern's offensive play was not affected. Chelsea's Jonathan Tah was substituted at half-time due to a shaky performance and receiving a yellow card. Bayern's next Champions League match will be against FC Pafos in Cyprus, two weeks from now. It's worth noting that FC Pafos held Olympiakos Piraeus to a 0:0 draw in their Champions League debut. This marks Bayern's 29th appearance in the Champions League, and they started their campaign with a 22nd consecutive opening win in the competition. The Bavarians will be looking to build on this victory as they continue their quest for Champions League glory.
