Off to the DFB Cup: FC Bayern vs. Wehen Wiesbaden - Wagner's First Test Awaits
Bayern Munich at Wehen Wiesbaden - Task for Wagner in Debut Game - Bayern Munich's Debut under Wagner against Wehen Wiesbaden – Wagner's Initial Project
No holds barred, here's the lowdown on the German football titans, FC Bayern Munich, as they embark on their journey for their first cup win since 2020, squaring off against third-division side, SV Wehen Wiesbaden. This match is a result of the draw held at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The initial cup clash is set for August 15-18.
But let's not jump the gun just yet. Given that Bayern, the defending champions, and VfB Stuttgart, last season's runners-up, are gearing up for the Franz-Beckenbauer Supercup, those two squads won't join the DFB Cup action until August 26-27. Stuttgart will take on second-tier team and traditional club Eintracht Braunschweig in the opening round.
Moving on to FC Augsburg and their newly appointed head coach, Sandro Wagner, they'll first clash against Halle FC from the Regionalliga Nordost. Meanwhile, second-tier side 1. FC Nuremberg will be going head-to-head with fourth-tier team, FV Illertissen, aiming to secure a spot in the next round.
"Our goal is to make it through Illertissen," sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou declared. "But we'll approach this challenge with utter humility and focus."
SpVgg Greuther Fürth hopes to knock out TuS Blau-Weiß Lohne. Relegated second-tier side Jahn Regensburg will host Bundesliga returnee 1. FC Köln, while 1. FC Schweinfurt, who earned promotion to the third tier, will face Fortuna Düsseldorf at home.
The grand finale is slated for May 23, 2026.
Surprise cup finalists Arminia Bielefeld will go up against Werder Bremen, which means they'll have to face off against a Bundesliga team right off the bat. In the quarterfinals of the previous season, Bielefeld triumphantly bested Bremen at home.
Beyond the August preliminary round, the second round (October 28 and 29) and the round of 16 (December 2 and 3) will also take place this year. The quarterfinals in February and the semifinals in April will lead to the final at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on May 23, 2026.
