Luis Díaz Joins Bayern Munich in €75 Million Transfer

Luis Díaz, the Colombian international forward, has completed his move to Bayern Munich from Liverpool, signing a four-year contract with the German giants. The 28-year-old arrived in Munich from Tokyo on Tuesday morning, donning a suit, blue shirt, and headphones.

Díaz's transfer history and performance have been nothing short of impressive. He moved from FC Porto to Liverpool in January 2022 for a deal rising to €49 million. After 148 appearances and scoring 41 goals for the Reds, he has now joined Bayern Munich for €75 million, a record deal for the Bavarian club.

At Liverpool, Díaz had his most productive season in 2024-2025, scoring 17 goals and contributing to the team winning the Premier League title that season. He also won the FA Cup and FA Community Shield with Liverpool.

Bayern sees Díaz as an important attacking reinforcement following several departures and an injury to key player Jamal Musiala. The Colombian's salary at Bayern is reported to be about €14 million before taxes, a substantial increase over his Liverpool wages, representing a financial gamble for Bayern.

Díaz is expected to score goals alongside Harry Kane, with Musiala injured for months. He could make his Bayern debut this weekend in the first test match for Bayern under head coach Vincent Kompany, scheduled for Saturday at the Allianz Arena.

The transfer fee for Díaz from Liverpool is the third most expensive in Bayern's history, after Kane (€100 million) and Lucas Hernández (€80 million). Bayern's leadership views Díaz as a top international winger with great skill, work rate, and goal threat who enriches the Bundesliga.

Sven Ulreich, Bayern's backup goalkeeper since 2015, has had his contract extended for another year. Max Eberl, Bayern's sport director, praised Ulreich as "reliability personified" and a valuable team member.

Díaz trained with the English champions on a promotional tour in Japan, met fans, and meditated in a temple. He previously met Florian Wirtz, the originally planned king transfer, during Liverpool's Asia tour.

The transfer fee for Díaz is a wide gap from the transfer fee for Michael Olise, who would like to come to Munich. Díaz's training with Bayern is set to begin this week following his vacation. Bayern Munich hopes that Díaz's transfer will not repeat the failure of the Mané experiment from 2022.
