Bayern Munich triumphs in the Supercup; VfB Stuttgart concludes the Woltemade event
In the recent Football Supercup clash between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart, the champions emerged victorious with a 2:1 win, securing their first title of the season. However, the spotlight was also on a potential transfer saga involving Nick Woltemade, a promising 23-year-old forward from Stuttgart.
Bayern Munich's goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, made an outstanding save in the 24th minute to prevent a temporary equalizer by Woltemade. The striker had another opportunity to score in the 74th minute, but his effort went wide. Despite his impressive display, Woltemade's transfer to Bayern Munich this summer is unlikely to happen.
Stuttgart's CEO, Alexander Wehrle, has firmly ruled out the move, stating that Woltemade "is our player and he will play for us this year," emphasizing that the case is closed. The main sticking point has been the transfer fee. Stuttgart reportedly set a valuation around €75 million, while Bayern's top offer was said to be over €60 million but below the asking price, and negotiations did not reach an agreement by the deadline set by Stuttgart.
Despite Bayern's strong interest and the player's evident quality—endorsed by former Bayern striker Claudio Pizarro who highlighted Woltemade's special talent and potential—Stuttgart’s firm stance and high asking price have stalled the transfer this summer. However, Bayern Munich reportedly still considers Woltemade a primary target for the 2026 transfer window, suggesting the possibility of a future move.
The match itself saw Bayern take an early lead through Harry Kane, who capitalized on a defensive error by Luca Jaquez from VfB Stuttgart. Jamie Leweling scored a consolation goal for Stuttgart in the 81st minute, but it came too late to affect the outcome. Diaz sealed the victory for Bayern with a header after a cross from Serge Gnabry in the 77th minute.
In the end, Bayern Munich emerged victorious, while the Woltemade transfer saga remains unresolved. The champions will now look forward to their next match, while Stuttgart will aim to regroup and continue their season with their talented striker in their ranks.
