Bayern Munich Announces the Signing of Luiz Díaz
In a significant move for FC Bayern, the German football club has announced the signing of Colombian winger Luiz Díaz. The transfer, worth approximately €75 million (£65.5m / $88m) including add-ons, was finalized in late July 2025.
Díaz, a 28-year-old footballer, joins Bayern after a successful stint at Liverpool, where he spent three seasons. During his time at Anfield, he scored an impressive 17 goals and assisted in 8 more, playing a crucial role in Liverpool's championship titles in all three competitions last season.
Before his move to Liverpool, Díaz spent two years at FC Porto, where he joined in 2019 for a fee of 7 million euros. His career began in Colombia, where he played for Barranquilla FC and Atlético Junior.
Díaz's journey to Bayern began when he was discovered by a scout at a football tournament for South American indigenous peoples in 2015. Since then, he has risen through the ranks, earning a place in the Premier League with Liverpool and now, a spot in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
The transfer makes Díaz the third most expensive signing in Bayern's history, following Harry Kane (100 million euros) and Lucas Hernández (80 million euros).
On Tuesday, Díaz was seen at Munich Airport, and he underwent a medical examination at the Barmherzige Brüder hospital. He has since signed a contract with Bayern, which will keep him at the club until 2029, and he will wear the number 14.
The official confirmation of the transfer was made on Wednesday morning, with Díaz joining Bayern's pre-season training. Despite initial lower bids being rejected, Bayern's improved offer was accepted by Liverpool, who granted Díaz permission to leave their pre-season tour in Asia to complete the transfer.
As Díaz begins his new chapter with Bayern Munich, fans are eager to see what he will bring to the team, having already proven his worth in the Premier League.
