Bayern Munich renews deal with their defensive player
Bayern Munich have announced an extension to the contract of English defender Eric Dier on their official club website. The deal, initially secured on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season for €4 million, will now run until the summer of 2025. This extension signifies that Bayern have activated a corresponding option in Dier's agreement.
Dier's contract with Tottenham expires in the summer, and with this new agreement, Bayern will acquire him as a free agent. However, the financial terms of Dier's new deal remain undisclosed.
Since joining the German champions in the winter, Dier has featured in seven Bundesliga matches but has yet to find the net. Dier's tenure with Tottenham spanned ten years. He joined the London club in January 2014, when he moved from Sporting CP for €5 million, and played 364 matches, scoring 13 goals and assisting his teammates 12 times.
Reports suggest that Dier will not be extending his stay with Bayern, as he has agreed to join AS Monaco instead. The Monaco deal, running until 2027, offers Dier longevity and potentially ample opportunities in Ligue 1.
This development follows a season where Dier made 25 appearances for Bayern, demonstrating his significance as a substitute, particularly when covering for injured players such as Dayot Upamecano. However, Dier's role at Bayern was not assured, leading him to pursue a change of environment.
Despite the extended contract with Bayern Munich, Dier seems to be moving on to AS Monaco, as he has agreed to a deal running until 2027. In European leagues, Dier's football journey began with Sporting CP, and it's likely his next chapter will involve playing in Ligue 1 with the French club.
