Bayern Munich provides updates on Lena Oberdorf and Giulia Gwinn.
FC Bayern Munich's women's team is preparing for an exciting new season, with the squad considered complete and a new identity in the works. The double winners will kick off their Bundesliga campaign on September 6th against Bayer Leverkusen in the Allianz Arena.
José Barcala, the new coach of FC Bayern Munich, has ambitious plans for the team. He aims to take the team to the next international level and instil a Champions League winning mentality in the players. Barcala wants his team to behave like a Champions League winner every day in training, and to become "unpredictable" on the pitch.
The development of this new identity will require patience, according to Barcala. Lena Oberdorf, the former Wolfsburg player, is one of the key players who will be instrumental in this process. Oberdorf has made her first appearances in test matches for FC Bayern this summer and her comeback for the team is imminent. After more than a year of recovery from an ACL tear, Oberdorf is showing her quality in preparation for the season opener on August 30th.
Unfortunately, Giulia Gwinn, who was voted footballer of the year, will not be available for the season opener. She is still recovering from an injury to her left knee. However, Bayern director Bianca Rech has reported that Gwinn is on a very good recovery path and will join the team soon.
The season opener for FC Bayern Munich will be against VfL Wolfsburg on August 30th in Karlsruhe. Meanwhile, the game against Bayer Leverkusen in the Allianz Arena has already attracted a lot of interest, with 44,000 tickets sold for the match.
With the squad complete, the focus is now on fine-tuning the team's new identity under Barcala. The champions under Barcala are determined to make their mark on the Bundesliga and challenge for more silverware in the upcoming season.
