Here Comes the DFB Cup! Bayern Munich Goes Head-to-Head with Wehen Wiesbaden
Bayern Munich set to face Wehen Wiesbaden in the first challenge for new coach Wagner - Bayern Munich play against Wehen Wiesbaden in Wagner's debut match as manager
Band together, football fans! The reigning German football champions, FC Bayern Munich, are set to kick off their pursuit for the long-awaited cup victory since 2020. This blockbuster match will see them face off against third-tier side SV Wehen Wiesbaden, as decided by the draw held at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The first cup round spans from August 15 to 18.
In a twist of fate, as both Bayern and VfB Stuttgart are engaged in the Franz-Beckenbauer Supercup this weekend, they'll only join the competition on August 26 and 27. Stuttgart will take on second-tier side Eintracht Braunschweig, a traditional club, during the first round.
FC Augsburg, led by their new coach Sandro Wagner, will begin their journey against Halle's Regionaliga Nordost side, Hallescher FC. Meanwhile, second-tier team 1. FC Nuremberg aims to triumph against FV Illertissen, a fourth-tier team, in an effort to secure their passage to the next round.
Sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou of 1. FC Nuremberg declared, "Our primary goal in Illertissen is to advance to the next round. However, we'll approach this crucial task with complete humility and concentration."
As for SpVgg Greuther Fürth, they're set to eliminate TuS Blau-Weiß Lohne, while second-tier relegated side Jahn Regensburg will host Bundesliga returnee 1. FC Köln. 1. FC Schweinfurt, freshly promoted to the 3. Liga, will face Fortuna Düsseldorf at home.
The final showdown is set for May 23, 2026.
Surprising cup finalists Arminia Bielefeld will clash with Werder Bremen once more. In a historic turn of events, Bielefeld had previously triumphed against Bremen in front of their home crowd during the quarter-finals of the previous season.
Following the initial round in August, the second round ( October 28 and 29) and the round of 16 (December 2 and 3) will take place this year. Quarter-finals in February and the semi-finals in April will lead to the Berlin Olympic Stadium on May 23, 2026 for the final face-off.
