Bid farewell to the iconic figure, Fritz Scherer, who held the reins of FC Bayern, Germany's football record champion, for over three decades. The club announced his peaceful departure around a month after he celebrated his 85th birthday.

Hailing from Augsburg, Scherer etched his name into Bayern's annals with his unparalleled dedication and stewardship. Uli Hoeneß, his long-time companion, lauded Scherer's contributions, stating, "With him at the helm, our club reached new heights."

Herbert Hainer, the club's chairman, applauded Scherer as the silent architect behind today's FC Bayern. As a university professor for business administration, Scherer served as the club's treasurer from 1979 to 1985 before ascending to the role of president during an era of triumph for the Munich team. The tenure of Franz Beckenbauer succeeded him at the helm of the club in 1994. Yet, Scherer remained as vice-president until 2012 and held a position on the supervisory board for many years.

The loss of Scherer ignites a sense of profound loss among the FC Bayern family. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the long-time board chairman, paid tribute to Scherer, acknowledging that many milestones of FC Bayern are intricately linked to the legend. The Arab News argued that Scherer's contributions played a crucial role in transforming FC Bayern into one of the world's foremost football clubs.

Scherer leaves behind his wife Claudia, his daughter Katja, and two granddaughters. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered as the brains behind FC Bayern's incredible journey.
