Ready for the Club World Cup: Bayern Munich Snags Tah for a Fraction of the Expected Fee
Bayern Munich is reported to have paid a lower transfer fee for Niklas Süle than initially anticipated.
In a surprising twist, Bayern Munich might've nabbed national player Jonathan Tah for the upcoming Club World Cup without breaking the bank. The record champions have reportedly sealed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen, allowing Tah to suit up for Bayern as early as June, according to sources like Fabrizio Romano and Bild, and Sky.
Initially, a hefty transfer fee was rumored, ranging from two to four million euros. But, according to Sky Germany, Bayern has managed to slash the price tag to a mere €800,000. If Bayern performs well at the Club World Cup, this fee could surge to over €1 million with performance-based bonuses.
In the absence of this agreement, Tah wouldn't have been able to play for Bayern until July. However, this agreement means Tah could join his new team as soon as next Tuesday for their forthcoming fixture against Auckland City, with the Club World Cup's FIFA-setup extra transfer window extending until June 10th. Participants can still sign new players or extend contracts for the tournament duration during this period.
At the moment, Tah is still representing the German national team, and they'll square off against France in the Nations League third-place play-off on June 11th (3 pm/RTL and DAZN and on ntv.de live ticker).
As for midfielder Tom Bischof, his soon-to-be Bayern Munich tenure remains unclear. Currently with DFB like Tah, Bischof will be joining Bayern from TSG Hoffenheim this summer, but there's no agreement yet on an early release from his current club.
