The German Football League (DFL) has announced the blockbuster opening match, set to take place at 8:30 PM CEST on Friday, August 22. This highly-anticipated clash will feature FC Bayern battling against the formidable new coach, Ole Werner, who's leading RB Leipzig into the fray. The game will be streamed on both Sky (pay-TV) and Sat.1 (free-to-air).

Curious football enthusiasts can get in on the action before the complete schedules are officially unveiled on June 27. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the day before (June 26), the "What's the Match?" puzzle will be available in the official Bundesliga app. Clues will be released every half-hour, allowing fans to guess another match from the 2025/26 Bundesliga season’s 1st matchday.

How's the schedule built? The creation process considers numerous factors, such as city schedules, security concerns, the Central Information Unit for Sports Events (ZIS), club preferences, and stadium operator needs. These factors include ensuring that neighboring clubs play at different times, holidays, major events, and match dates for international tournament participation.

As we speak, only FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund are busy training for their participation in the Club World Cup. The rest of the Bundesliga clubs will begin their training soon, while some 2. Bundesliga teams have already started gearing up last week.

Coach Shake-up: Sandro Wagner has taken over as coach of FC Augsburg, starting July 7. Erik ten Hag has joined Bayer Leverkusen, Lukas Kwasniok is now leading 1. FC Cologne, Horst Steffen is moving from SV Elversberg to Werder Bremen, and Ole Werner is taking charge at RB Leipzig. Paul Simonis is the new mentor at VfL Wolfsburg.

The Ball's Game: The last iteration of the Derbystar, the "Bundesliga Brillant APS," will be used for the last time as the ball this season. From the 2026/27 season, adidas balls will make a comeback.

Catch the Game: If you want to see the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga in action, Sky still holds the rights to Saturday individual games, the Friday evening game, and all 2. Bundesliga games and conferences. DAZN has secured the rights to the Saturday Bundesliga conference and the Sunday games. Sat.1 gets to broadcast nine live games per season, including relegation games and the Supercup. RTL nabs the top 2. Bundesliga game on Saturdays. Highlights can still be found in various media outlets, such as ARD Sportschau, ZDF Sportstudio, RTL+, Sport1, and Axel Springer publishing group offerings.
