Luis Díaz Completes Transfer to Bayern Munich for £65.5 Million

Luis Díaz has officially joined Bayern Munich from Liverpool, ending a summer-long transfer saga. The Colombian international has signed a four-year contract, with a reported annual salary of €14m that could rise further with bonus payments.

The deal, worth around £65.5 million, ranks as Bayern's third highest ever transfer, behind Harry Kane and Lucas Hernandez. For Liverpool, the fee matches their club's second biggest sale ever. Initially, Bayern's first bid of around £58.5 million was rejected, but Liverpool accepted the improved offer, which includes add-ons, considering it to be full market value.

Díaz had expressed a desire to leave Liverpool last summer, and attempts to extend his contract were unsuccessful due to a gap between the club’s offer and his demands. Liverpool reluctantly agreed to the sale after Díaz helped secure their 20th Premier League title.

Bayern's officials praised Díaz's qualities as a top left winger with goal threat, versatility, and international experience, expecting him to make an immediate impact. The transfer does not affect Liverpool's recruitment plans, as they have already signed Hugo Ekitike, a promising striker from Eintracht Frankfurt, to bolster their attacking options.

Díaz's current deal at Liverpool ran until 2027, but he was widely reported to have been cool on the option to extend it. Meanwhile, Liverpool continue to pursue Florian Wirtz, a highly-rated midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen, in a £116m move.

In summary, the transfer of Luis Díaz from Liverpool to Bayern Munich is now complete, marking a significant deal between the clubs in the summer of 2025. Both clubs are set to continue their respective recruitment efforts, with Bayern welcoming Díaz and Liverpool eyeing Wirtz.
