Bayern Munich failed to secure transfer negotiations for Harry Kane due to a reported low-valued proposal.

Liverpool Leading Race for Florian Wirtz; Bayern Munich Reportedly Miss Out on Midfielder

Liverpool have reportedly taken the lead in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz this summer, with the Reds close to reaching an agreement with the German club.

According to talkSPORT, Wirtz has already agreed on personal terms with Liverpool ahead of a potential move to Anfield. The development comes after both Bayern Munich and Manchester City withdrew their respective pursuits of the 22-year-old.

Liverpool have now initiated negotiations with Leverkusen following an opening bid believed to be around €100 million (£84 million). Although this initial offer falls short of Leverkusen's purported valuation of around €150 million (£126 million), the bid marks the first formal exchange between the clubs.

Leverkusen's sporting director confirmed "concrete interest" from Liverpool, emphasizing a committed approach from the Reds that has spurred negotiations to continue.

European football expert Andy Brassell has suggested that Bayern Munich may have missed out on Wirtz due to a perceived low-ball offer and over-reliance on Wirtz's apparent willingness to join the club regardless. According to Brassell, Bayern showed hesitance in bidding higher to secure the young talent.

Liverpool's manager, Arne Slot, may have played a crucial role in persuading Wirtz to prefer a move to Liverpool, as reported by various sources.

Additional factors contributing to Liverpool's strong position in the negotiations include an openness to player exchanges to help meet Leverkusen's valuation and a demonstrated commitment to reaching an agreement despite the high price tag.

Should the deal go through, Wirtz's arrival at Liverpool could arguably extend the life of Mohamed Salah as an elite-level player.

A product of Leverkusen's academy, Wirtz made his league debut for the side in 2020 and went on to score 16 goals and provide 15 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions in the most recent campaign.

The midfielder is also a German international, having won 29 caps and scoring six goals for his country.
