Bayern Munich Claim First Title in Absence of Woltemade, with Díaz Stepping Up to Deliver
Bayern Munich's Summer Transfer Pursuits: Nick Woltemade Saga Concludes, Attention Shifts to Luis Díaz
As the summer transfer window draws to a close, the saga surrounding Nick Woltemade's potential move to Bayern Munich has come to an end. VfB Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle confirmed that Woltemade will remain with the club for the 2025-26 season, stating that he is "our player and he will play for us this year."
Bayern had expressed interest in Woltemade, with reports suggesting a €60 million offer, but Stuttgart remained firm, valuing the player at around €75 million. Despite Woltemade's reported desire for a move to Bayern, no further negotiations are expected.
In a positive turn of events for Bayern, they have secured the services of Luis Díaz from Liverpool. Díaz impressed during his debut, scoring his first goal for the club with a headed finish in the 77th minute. His work ethic has been commended by the coaching staff, and he looks set to make a significant impact in the coming season.
Christoph Freund, sports director of Bayern Munich, expressed doubts about reopening negotiations with Stuttgart for Woltemade, stating that "while anything is possible in football, it seems unlikely that they will change the minds of VfB Stuttgart regarding Luis Díaz in the remaining two weeks of the transfer period."
Meanwhile, VfB Stuttgart remains confident that Woltemade will fully commit himself to the club. Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth praised Woltemade's performance against Bayern, stating that he gave a good answer to all the fuss. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß expects a "motivated" Woltemade in the future.
Despite missing out on Woltemade, Bayern Munich will kick off their new quest for the championship trophy as early as Friday against RB Leipzig. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made several good saves against Woltemade during the match, highlighting the quality of the opposition.
In the midst of the celebration, Woltemade stood a few meters away, applauding restrainedly. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was pleased with their progress, especially in terms of fitness, following the Club World Cup. The Supercup win sent a clear message, not just to Woltemade, but also to Díaz, as Bayern Munich look forward to the new season.
