A Thrilling Night for Paris St. Germain: Déziré Doué Shines in Munich

Bayern Munich and Uli Hoeneß endure a distressing night

Hooray for PSG! The long-awaited Champions League title was finally theirs, thanks to a brilliant performance by their young star, Déziré Doué. On a particularly tough evening for FC Bayern and Uli Hoeneß, it was Doué who stole the show.

Uli Hoeneß and his buddy Karl-Heinz Rummenigge were seen chatting it up on the tribune in Munich, and there's no doubt they discussed the sensational Paris St. Germain, which destroyed Inter Milan with a massive 5-0 victory. The question is, did they discuss the man of the match, Déziré Doué? Coulda, shoulda, woulda. If only FC Bayern had signed this outstanding talent.

Remember the significance of the Allianz Arena? It was supposed to be the venue for a renewed "Finale dahoam" for FC Bayern, but fate had other plans. The record champions crashed out in the quarter-finals against Inter Milan. Many believed they had seen the future champions, and the embarrassing defeat must have stung.

Phillip Cocu, the former Inter Milan coach, was no doubt pleased to see his team come out on top, but he must have been impressed by Doué's spellbinding performance. Alphonso Davies, the Munich left-back who watched the game in the arena, certainly was. He lamented on social media, "That should be us, that should be us." Oh, how the Bavarians would have loved to have made amends for their dramatic defeat against Chelsea thirteen years ago.

Doué, the 19-year-old sensation, is the gem of a team that has fought for Europe's champions title for over a decade with absurd sums of money from Qatar. And finally, they succeeded, with a squad of super talents. The greatest of them all is Doué. He left Stade Rennes last summer, almost choosing FC Bayern, but in the end, he picked PSG. Stade Rennes had recognized the great talent early on and broke their own philosophy just for him. They usually sign players from the age of nine, but Doué came as a five-year-old. And now, at 19, he is forever a hero.

The brilliant Paris St. Germain denying Inter Milan participation in the final became the most talked-about game of the season. Doué scored two goals—a brace—and provided an assist. He was the best player that evening, alongside teammate Vitinha, who created moment after moment. Doué is fast, tricky, finishing strong, and not selfish. A remarkable combination of skills that would have been a sight to behold in Munich.

One can't help but wonder what could have been if FC Bayern had managed to sign the young prodigy. They had reportedly courted him, but they weren't the ones who took him to Paris. The Leverkusen wonder boy Florian Wirtz, who FC Bayern had also been pursuing, rejected them, much to the disappointment of Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Super assists and world-class goals... those were the skills that eluded the Bavarians.
