Munich - This move should put a smile on coach Vincent Kompany's face! Bayern Munich and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have reportedly agreed to a buyout for Jonathan Tah, making him available for the Club World Cup.
Let's Break it Down
- Early Transfer between Bayern and Bayer 04
- Tah's expected participation in the Club World Cup
- Buyout Cost: €800,000 fixed, with more than €1 million in bonus payments
- Departure to the US expected on Tuesday to join Kompany's squad
- Original contract expiration date: June 30 without a buyout
An earlier deal had the Bayer board eying a buyout sum of €2 - €4 million for the early transfer to Munich, according to BILD1. However, both sides ended up agreeing on a fixed sum of €800,000, with additional bonus payments totaling more than €1 million2. Bayern Munich will also cover Tah's salary.
Tah's contract would have ended on June 30, but the transfer to Säbener Straße was set to be too late for the Club World Cup. With this agreement, he'll have a chance to participate in this event. The tournament kicks off on June 15, and Kompany's squad will play their opening match against Auckland City on the same day at 6 PM CET.
If Bayern performs well, bonus payments could push the total fee above €1 million2. Without the agreement, Tah would've only been eligible to join Bayern from July 1, and only if they reached the quarterfinals. The defender is reportedly set to travel to the US on Tuesday, currently still with the national team, who will face France in the Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday4.
