Breaking News: Wirtz Heading to Munich?
Leverkusen and Bayern Munich reportedly reach agreement over Wirtz transfer - Bidding game ensues - Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen's Wirtz have struck a deal.
Looks like the gossips about Florian Wirtz joining Bayern Munich might just be true! According to the latest news from Bild, Bayern and Wirtz have reportedly come to terms on a future partnership. But wait, there's a catch - no negotiations with Wirtz's current club, Bayer Leverkusen, have taken place yet. The 22-year-old's contract with Leverkusen runs until 2027, but rumors suggest that Leverkusen wants a whopping 150 million euros for Wirtz. Bayern, on the other hand, is said to be offering 100 million euros this summer, and if that's not sufficient, Wirtz might hold on until 2026 when a departure is likely to command a transfer fee for Leverkusen.
As of now, no official statements have been made.
Eberl Cautious, Alonso Clueless
Wirtz has been the hottest transfer target for FC Bayern Munich this summer. Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the supervisory board members, have showered praises on the Leverkusen player. Bayern fans and Säbener Straße bosses can't wait to see Wirtz and his national teammate Jamal Musiala play together at the club. Insiders believe that Wirtz wants to match Musiala's salary range, given that Musiala extended his contract till 2030.
Max Eberl, Bayern's sports director, has remained vague about Wirtz's potential transfer, stating that he doesn't pay much heed to transfer rumors. However, when the time comes, he assures that Bayern will do its best to make the transfer happen and decide whether it's feasible based on the squad situation at the Club World Cup and the new season.
Coach Xabi Alonso, who's leaving Leverkusen at the end of the season, seemed unaware of Wirtz's potential move to Bayern. When probed about it, Alonso simply commented that it's not his information and that he only speaks to Wirtz about games.
Wirtz's Desire for Change
Wirtz himself hinted at his intention to leave his comfort zone in an interview this week. "I've grown accustomed to the football dressing rooms, and I'm confident that I would quickly form connections anywhere," he said. When asked about a possible move to Bayern, he denied having talks about it with Alonso yet. However, he did express his respect for players who leave their comfort zone for their careers and emphasized that he was lucky to play for one of the best clubs in Germany and Europe, with Bayern being his preferred destination.
Sayonara, Manchester City and Real Madrid!
While Wirtz had opportunities to join top clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid, he declared that he will be joining Bayern instead. In his interview, he stated, "I have great respect for players who leave their family and environment behind for their careers. I'm already playing for one of the best clubs in Germany and Europe, so Bayern it is!"
