Bayer Leverkusen Secures 4-0 Victory in DFB-Pokal First-Round Match Against Sonnenhof Großaspach

Bayer 04 Leverkusen triumphed in their DFB-Pokals first-round match against Sonnenhof Großaspach, with a final score of 4-0. The game was temporarily suspended due to a severe summer storm that hit the stadium, but resumed with Leverkusen extending their lead and securing the victory.

The storm, which included hail, thunder, and gusts of wind, forced the players off the field for approximately 17 minutes. During the suspension, many personnel, including substitute players of the hosts, worked diligently to clear large puddles from the field, with fans from both teams cheering them on.

Erik ten Hag, the new coach of Bayer Leverkusen, made his debut in the match. Ten Hag, who previously worked with Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester United, is facing a significant rebuilding task due to several key players leaving during the transfer period, including Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah.

The game resumed with Leverkusen dominating the play, and they capitalised on their opportunities. Patrik Schick, Arthur, Christian Kofane, and a penalty by Álex Grimaldo scored for Leverkusen, extending their lead and securing the victory. Sonnenhof Großaspach had two players sent off during the game, which helped Leverkusen maintain control and eventually secure the win.

The game was halted at a score of 0-0 when the storm hit, but it was Leverkusen who made the most of the opportunities that presented themselves after the resumption. The final score of 4-0 saw Leverkusen progress to the second round of the tournament.

Despite the interruption, the game was eventually completed, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen emerged victorious. The team will now look forward to their next match in the DFB-Pokal, aiming to continue their winning streak under new coach Erik ten Hag.
