Bayer back against St. Pauli: "No champagne football" - Bayer Leverkusen signs rising star Damjanović and welcomes back Maza ahead of St. Pauli clash

Bayer Leverkusen have also secured the signing of young striker Aleksa Damjanović from Red Star Belgrade. The 19-year-old will join the club next season on a long-term deal. Meanwhile, defender Ibrahim Maza has returned to full training after recovering from knee problems.

Damjanović arrives with a strong reputation. Initially a versatile defender, he became a key player in Red Star Belgrade's domestic successes. Sporting director Simon Rolfes called him one of Europe's most promising striking talents.

The team also prepares for an upcoming match against FC St. Pauli. Maza, now fit, will be available for selection after completing a full week of training. However, head coach Kasper Hjulmand remains cautious. He warned against overconfidence despite Leverkusen's 3–0 win over St. Pauli in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinal just eleven days ago.

Hjulmand also cast doubt on Maza's match fitness. While the defender has trained without issues, the manager is unsure if he can last the full 90 minutes.

Damjanović's arrival strengthens Leverkusen's attack for next season. Maza's return offers defensive options for the immediate clash with St. Pauli. The team, though, will approach the game with measured expectations after their recent cup victory.
