Bayer Leverkusen Reinforce Their Squad with Dutch Talent Ernest Poku

Bayer Leverkusen have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Dutch forward Ernest Poku from AZ Alkmaar. The 21-year-old, who is of Ghanaian descent, put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the BayArena until 2030.

The transfer fee is reportedly around €10 million, with additional performance-related bonuses possible. The medical check for Poku's transfer is scheduled for the coming days.

Poku, known for his exceptional speed, is a right-winger who has already made a name for himself in the Eredivisie. In the 2024-25 season, he scored three goals and provided six assists in 48 games.

Following his move to Germany, Poku made an immediate impact, scoring one goal and providing two assists in his first four Bundesliga games for Leverkusen. His pace and dribbling ability have impressed in both the league and Europa League, and he was highlighted for his performance in reaching the semifinals of the European Under-21 Championship with the Netherlands.

The arrival of Poku comes at a time when Leverkusen have experienced several key player departures, including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong (to FC Liverpool), Jonathan Tah (to Bayern Munich), Granit Xhaka (to AFC Sunderland), and Lukas Hradecky (to AS Monaco).

New coach Erik ten Hag has publicly called for more new signings at Bayer Leverkusen, and Poku is viewed as a promising young attacking talent expected to play a key role in the club's rebuild.

In addition to Poku, Leverkusen have also signed goalkeeper Mark Flekken from FC Brentford, Ibrahim Maza from Hertha BSC, and Malik Tillman from PSV Eindhoven.

Poku is not the only Dutch talent joining Leverkusen, as he is a Dutch U-21 international. His arrival at the club is sure to excite fans, who are eager to see what he can bring to the team.
