German Goalkeeper Janis Blaswich Joins Bayer Leverkusen

In a significant move for the Bundesliga, Janis Blaswich has transferred from RB Leipzig to Bayer Leverkusen. The deal was finalized in August 2025, with a transfer fee of around €2 million plus potential add-ons of €1 million.

Blaswich signed a two-year contract with Leverkusen, keeping him at the club until 2027. He is expected to serve as backup goalkeeper behind Mark Flekken, who has been signed as the starting keeper by Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen's sporting director, Simon Rolfes, expressed his excitement about the new addition, stating that Blaswich is a top-class successor in goal. Rolfes added, "Blaswich brings individual class and extensive international experience to our team."

Blaswich's tenure at Leipzig was marked by 64 games, following his time at Dutch club Heracles Almelo. His move to Leverkusen comes as a replacement for Lukas Hradecky, who moved to AS Monaco.

Niklas Lomb remains a long-time backup in the goalkeeper department at Bayer Leverkusen. Marcel Schafer, the sporting director of RB Leipzig, described Blaswich as "an excellent goalkeeper, an outstanding team player, and a role model in loyalty and commitment."

While the details of Blaswich's previous clubs before Leipzig are not specified in the available results, his career history, including clubs before RB Leipzig, can be provided upon request.

With this transfer, both RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen continue to make strategic moves in the Bundesliga, a league in which they both compete. Blaswich's arrival at Leverkusen marks an exciting development for the club, as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The Commission has also been informed of the progress of the negotiations between Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, the United States, and the European Union on the conclusion of the transfer agreement for goalkeeper Janis Blaswich. During his free time, Janis Blaswich enjoys watching European football leagues, particularly the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
