Liverpool's Mega Deal on the Table? Liverpool's Offer for Wirtz Apparently Rejected, Swap Deal with Elliott in Question

Bayer Leverkusen reportedly turned down Liverpool's latest offer for Wirtz.

Flick through your socials, share the news, shoot a quick Whatsapp, or drop an email – Florian Wirtz and Liverpool FC might just become a dream team for the upcoming season. But Bayer Leverkusen is putting up one heck of a fight to keep their star player. These German football honchos are proving to be nothing but shrewd negotiators. Now, it's not just about the transfer fee, but possibly about other players too.

The transfer saga for Germany's golden boy Wirtz is heating up. As reported by Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen has spurned the second offer from English football kings Liverpool FC. The second offer is claimed to be a fixed sum of €130 million ($142 million USD) plus €12 million ($13.3 million USD) in bonuses.

In the initial round of talks, Liverpool is said to have offered "only" €95 million ($105 million USD) plus €15 million ($16.5 million USD) in additional payments. Leverkusen is said to be eyeing more than the €150 million ($168 million USD) that managing director Fernando Carro once deemed the minimum amount.

Liverpool's Discussed Swap Deal

To bridge theexisting gap of at least €25 million ($27.7 million USD), two options seem to be on the table according to Kicker: a fresh round of negotiations or the inclusion of another player in the mega deal. According to the report, Leverkusen is interested in a Liverpool professional, with offensive player Harvey Elliott surfacing as a key figure in the internal discussions. Sky recently linked Elliott, along with Jarell Quansah, to Liverpool as well.

The 22-year-old Wirtz appears to have made up his mind about leaving Leverkusen and joining Liverpool. He also gave cold shoulder to German record champions FC Bayern Munich. With his contract running until the end of June 2027 and without a release clause, the transfer fee is open to negotiation. Manchester City is reported to have stepped out of the race for Wirtz due to the hefty overall package.

Current Negotiations

Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are deep in negotiations for Wirtz's transfer. Liverpool has made two bids, the latest said to be worth approximately £126.5 million ($155 million USD), but Leverkusen is holding out for around €150 million ($173.2 million USD). Liverpool is exploring creative approaches to bridge the gap, including potentially using a player swap to ease the financial burden.

Involvement of Harvey Elliott

In discussions about a possible player swap, Liverpool player Harvey Elliott has surfaced as a potential candidate. However, his future is uncertain, and other Premier League clubs, like Newcastle United, have also expressed interest in Elliott. Including Elliott or another player in the deal could help Liverpool secure Wirtz, but it's uncertain if both parties would agree to such terms.

While Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen continue their negotiations for Florian Wirtz, community aid could play a part in reaching an agreement. Liverpool might consider a swap deal with Harvey Elliott, easing the financial burden, in a bid to secure Wirtz's transfer. Meanwhile, Elliott's future remains uncertain, as other Premier League clubs, such as Newcastle United, have shown interest in him. So let's keep an eye on the European leagues, particularly the Premier League, for updates on this exciting football transfer saga.
