Bayer Leverkusen is making significant changes to its squad as the German football club prepares for the new season. The team, now under the leadership of new coach Erik ten Hag, has been actively seeking new players to strengthen its ranks, as indicated by the coach's public calls.

One of the latest additions to the team is Dutch U-21 international Ernest Poku, who is set to sign a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2030. Poku, a 21-year-old talented winger, is known for his exceptional speed and impressive performances at AZ Alkmaar. The transfer fee for Poku is approximately €10 million.

Poku, who plays as a right-winger, showcased his skills in the U-21 European Championship in Slovakia, where he was the fastest player of the tournament with a speed of 35.3 km/h. His medical check with Bayer Leverkusen is scheduled for the coming days.

Bayer Leverkusen has also signed goalkeeper Mark Flekken from FC Brentford, with Poku's arrival set to provide competition for the new No. 1. The club has also strengthened its defence with the signing of Jarell Quansah from Liverpool and defender Loic Badé, who joined for approximately €25-30 million.

Malik Tillman, an attacking midfielder, has also joined Bayer Leverkusen from PSV Eindhoven. Ibrahim Maza, another new addition, has been signed from Hertha BSC.

The club has been making these moves to offset the loss of key players in recent years, including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong (now at FC Liverpool), Jonathan Tah (Bayern Munich), Granit Xhaka (AFC Sunderland), and Lukas Hradecky (AS Monaco).

Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly close to signing striker Ernest Poku, and the club aims to add two more players before the transfer deadline: a creative midfielder to offset the loss of Florian Wirtz, and another professional in an unspecified position. However, the club has budget restrictions, with transfer fees unlikely to exceed €50 million on any one player.

Despite the extensive squad changes, Bayer Leverkusen aims for a top-four Bundesliga finish and Champions League qualification. The new project, led by coach Erik ten Hag, focuses on integrating new talents and rebuilding squad leadership.
