Uncertain Future: Liverpool's Second Bid for Wirtz Refused by Leverkusen
Bayer has declined Liverpool's second proposal for Wirtz. - Bayer has reportedly turned down a second proposal from Liverpool for the acquisition of midfielder, Wirtz.
Looks like the battle for Florian Wirtz is heating up! According to reports from "Kicker," Bayer Leverkusen has turned down Liverpool FC's second offer. This time, the offer was rumored to be a fixed sum of €120 million euros plus €12 million euros in bonus payments.
In the first round of negotiations, there was talk that Liverpool had offered €100 million euros plus an extra €15 million euros in additional payments. The Bayer execs seem to be aiming for more than the €150 million euros that general manager Fernando Carro once publicly mentioned as the minimum amount.
So, how are they planning to close the gap of at least €20 million euros? It looks like two options are on the table: further talks or including another player in the mega-deal.
There are whispers that Leverkusen is interested in a player from Liverpool, with offensive star Harvey Elliott reportedly catching their eye. In fact, TV channel Sky recently linked the 2024 German champions with Elliott, as well as his teammate Jarell Quansah.
Why is Wirtz so pricey?
It seems that Wirtz himself is leaping at the chance to ditch Leverkusen and move to Liverpool. He's even reportedly bypassed the interest of German record champions FC Bayern Munich.
Wirtz's contract with Bayer runs until the end of June 2027, and there's no release clause, making his transfer fee negotiable. With Manchester City dropping out of the race due to the high overall cost, it seems Wirtz's price tag is causing quite a stir.
