Ouch, another setback for Arthur and Bayer Leverkusen

Arthur's unsavory situation strikes again. His beloved right thigh, once more. Ouch!

South American sensation Arthur (20), a winger, finds himself in an unwelcome 3-month-long absence from Bayer Leverkusen's squad due to a fresh muscle and tendon injury. This unfortunate event occurred during training, just when hopes were high for his swift comeback.

Unfortunately, surgery becomes a necessity following the examiners' conclusion on Tuesday.

Not only does Arthur's physical ailment pose challenges for the Brazilian international coming off his bargain-priced €7M transfer into the Bundesliga, but also Bayer Leverkusen as they currently top the league.

His return to top form was slated for January, if all had gone according to plan. This unfortunate turn of events is building towards a challenging period, where Leverkusen could potentially be missing up to five of their key talents – Boniface, Tapsoba, Kossounou, Adli (initially out with an ankle injury until February 8), and Tella – due to the Africa Cup.

It remains a possibility that Bayer Leverkusen could once more venture into the transfer market during the winter period, following the latest developments.

  • Upon his eventual return, Arthur expressed his eagerness to rejoin his team-mates during the 'Bundesliga at Bild' coverflow, expressing his intentions to help Leverkusen maintain their high standing in the league despite the looming absence of players due to the Africa Cup.

Given the lack of certainty regarding the specifics of Arthur's injury and return from surgery, the team will be forced to adapt and compensate during the Africa Cup period, likely relying on their depth and the call-ups' replacements.
