Women in Bavaria earn significantly less than men - Bavaria’s stubborn pay gap leaves women earning 7% less than men

Women in Bavaria earn less than men, even when doing the same work. On average, they make €1.98 less per hour for comparable jobs—a gap of seven percent. This figure comes from the latest gender pay analysis in the region.

The overall wage difference in Bavaria is even larger. Women take home €23.22 per hour on average, while men earn €28.50. That’s a €5.28 gap, or 19 percent less for women. Most of this difference stems from structural factors, like part-time roles and lower-paying sectors where women are more likely to work.

Two-thirds of the pay gap can be explained by these structural issues. But even after accounting for them, a seven percent gap remains. This adjusted figure shows that women still earn less than men for the same type of work.

The problem isn’t limited to a few companies. The 2025 Gender Pay Gap report from Bayern statistics doesn’t name specific firms where women are paid less. Instead, it highlights a widespread trend across the region. Bavaria’s gap is also slightly wider than the national average, which sits at six percent.

The data reveals a persistent wage disparity in Bavaria. Women face both structural and direct pay differences compared to men. Without changes, the gap is likely to remain in future reports.
