Movies, Series, Sports: Every Third Bavarian Uses Streaming - Bavaria’s streaming boom sees 32% of residents paying for subscriptions in 2025
Streaming services are growing rapidly in Bavaria, with nearly one in three residents now paying for subscriptions. The latest figures show a sharp increase in both video and music platforms since 2022. These trends come from a recent survey on digital media use across the region.
In 2025, 32% of Bavarians aged 16 to 74 use paid streaming for films, TV shows, sports, and music. This marks a 14-point jump from 2022, reflecting a broader shift towards digital entertainment.
The most popular services include Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for on-demand content. DAZN remains a top choice for sports fans, particularly for FC Bayern matches. Meanwhile, YouTube offers free sports highlights, keeping it widely used. For music, Spotify leads the market, with 27% of the population now subscribing—a ten-point rise since 2022.
Locally, Wotsch.TV has gained ground among younger viewers. The platform has attracted attention with around 2.8 million TikTok views since June 2025, signalling a growing regional streaming scene. The data comes from a microcensus survey on private use of information and communication technologies.
The survey highlights how streaming has become a dominant form of entertainment in Bavaria. Both international giants and local platforms are expanding their reach. With subscriptions rising across video and music, digital media continues to reshape how people consume content.
