Movies, Series, Sports: Every Third Bavarian Uses Streaming - Bavaria’s streaming boom: Nearly a third now pay for films, music, and sports

Paid streaming services have surged in popularity across Bavaria over the past three years. By 2025, nearly one in three residents aged 16 to 74 subscribed to platforms for films, series, or sports. Major providers like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, DAZN, and RTL+ now dominate the market, with RTL+ recently releasing the new series Neue Geschichten vom Pumuckl.

The rise in streaming usage is clear from the latest microcensus survey. In 2025, 27% of Bavarians paid for Spotify or Pandora, up by 10 percentage points since 2022. The increase for video and sports content was even sharper, climbing 14 percentage points in the same period.

The survey results confirm a steady move toward paid streaming in Bavaria. With nearly a third of adults now subscribing to video or sports services, the trend shows no signs of slowing. Spotify or Pandora has also grown, though at a slightly slower rate.
