Ingolstadt and Regensburg Leading in Charging Stations - Bavaria's EV Charging Points: Regensburg Leads, Munich Lags

Bavaria, a leader in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, boasts nearly 35,000 publicly accessible charging points as of October 1, 2022. However, the distribution and availability of these charging points vary greatly across the region.

Regensburg leads in the ratio of electric vehicles to charging points, with 6.5 EVs per charging point. This is significantly lower than Bavaria's average of 15.7 and the national average of 16.7. Ingolstadt, on the other hand, has the best charging point to total car ratio in Bavaria and nationwide, with 71 registered cars sharing a single charging point.

Munich, despite having the most charging points, ranks low in charging availability per electric vehicle. With a high number of cars and EVs, the city has the highest value of registered cars per charging point in Bavaria, according to the 2021 statistics from the Verband der Automobilindustrie. Regensburg and Ingolstadt, however, have particularly strong coverage of charging stations in Bavaria.

Expanding charging infrastructure is seen as crucial for accelerating the shift to e-mobility in Bavaria. While some cities like Regensburg and Ingolstadt have excellent ratios, others like Munich face challenges due to high car and EV numbers. The region's average ratio of EVs to charging points, at 15.7, indicates a need for further expansion and balanced distribution of charging points.
